20 dead children in one school shooting. 140 deceased cats in one apartment. No mincing words. Cold, ugly facts.
Question: why? What evil, sick person can murder 20 innocent children (and 8 adults) in one random, insane shoot-out? What depraved individual can kill 140 defenseless cats?
Some would claim these people are inspired—incited—by the Evil One. Others would say external forces are contributing factors: upbringing, temperament, circumstances and/or conditions. We can all propose reasons, but the outcome is the same: innocent lives lost for naught.
Call them Satan’s Spawn, call them Aberrants or Misguided Souls. Whatever your take, there appear to be many of them out there. They’re on the news—too often. Is this a late 20th-century phenomenon? Or have these wretched events always occurred with the same frequency before media and Big Brother escalated to their current state? If studies were done, would we find that in the grand scheme of things, little has changed, that these episodes have constantly transpired—with regularity and to this extent? That television and the Internet have only brought to the forefront what was always happening? Or were June and Ward Cleaver true indications of how wholesome life once was?
We can recommend new laws, change old ones. Will this make “them” go away and the atrocities lessen? Or have we come too far to go back?
Does anyone have the answers? Or do we continue to hope and pray that maybe some not-so-far-off day, this will all go away . . . ?
